A Unique Journey of Discovery

DISCOVER JURA BY LAND AND SEA
Smell, taste and see what treasures the island has to offer. A wild experience you will never forget!
ABOUT DISCOVER JURA
Our small friendly group tour will take you where the guide books never venture!

Alex the driver and guide, will have you enthralled with his laugh-out-loud stories and vast local knowledge of both local history and culture. Robert, who operates Jura Explorer, will allow you to see a totally different aspect of Jura from the water with the added opportunity to see some of the marine wildlife we share our island with.
You can enjoy a visit to Jura Distillery which was founded in 1810 but fell into decline during the late 19th Century. In 1963 the present distillery was re-built and has strived for perfection ever since and now produces in excess of 1.5 million litres of spirit annually. Discover Jura operates modern, reliable vehicles & boats and passenger safety is paramount to us. This we will never compromise on.
We are confident that you will enjoy your time on Jura and look forward to giving you a warm Dhiurach welcome.

Alex  has lived on Jura for the past 30 years with his wife Carolyn who's family go back many generations.
He arrived on Jura in 1989 to help his father-in-law, Charlie, run the local bus service and when Charlie retired Alex took over the reins delivering milk, papers and supplies around the island. He also took the children to and from school and brought visitors to every corner of the island, so you can be sure you are  in safe hands as he knows every bump and pot hole on 'The Long Road'  intimately. Alex commented "it doesn’t really feel like work as I get to share Jura with like minded souls and see the island in all its various moods".His luxury mini coach allows a higher vantage point for sightseeing and spotting the many deer and other wildlife along the way.

Robert  was raised on Jura by his late parents who resided there. Having a vast knowledge of the local area he loves to share this with his passengers on the tour. He gained his formal boat operator qualifications in 2006 with the Royal Marines at Stonehouse in Plymouth and then his Commercial Endorsement followed. He formed his own business in 2016 on retirement after 36 years in the Military. Robert attended the Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust Safe Operators Course which allows boat operators to get close and personal with wildlife while both respecting their natural habitat and behavior. The rigid inflatable boat (RIB) was new in 2016 and is fully coded for 12 + 2 passengers and crew and is inspected annually to meet the stringent MCA standards.
